step1.jpg (226021 bytes) Step 1 – Cut all pieces of CS, fold in ½ crossways crease fold with bone folder
step2.jpg (237137 bytes) Step 2 – Decorate the largest size pieces of CS, this will not be seen a great deal so minimal decoration is required here but it is nice to edge all sides with an inkpad
step3.jpg (281607 bytes) Step 3 - You now have 7 surfaces that will be displayed when the book is open, you need to decide how you want to decorate each one. It is sort of like making 7 cards. You need to decide if you will decorate the final surface only or cut an opening to view the inside section. This is a cut with a view example. You can cut the window for viewing any shape – I used an inkpad to cut the squarish opening and I free drew the circle 1 – do this with the piece folded,
step4.jpg (297926 bytes) Step 4 – You can stamp in the center of the piece or images on either side of the fold
step5.jpg (176798 bytes) Step 5 - . Cut two pieces of the decorative paper (we used mulberry paper) at least 1 inch larger than the mat board on all four sides. Place mat board in the center of the paper and fold each corner to the mat board. Glue to hold. Fold the side edges in and glue to hold. These are the covers for your book.
step6.jpg (364329 bytes) Step 6 – You can choose to further embellish one of the covers to be the top of the book when closed
step7.jpg (362912 bytes) Step 7 - To assemble the book, place one folded largest page on your work surface. Put double-sided tape on all outside edges as well as along the folded edge. Put another strip of tape diagonally across the center of the page or use glue. I used Xyron to attach adhesive. Carefully place another folded red page on top of the first, beginning with the folded edges and slowly matching up the three remaining edges. Smooth with a bone folder to ensure a smooth and secure fit. Repeat this procedure of putting tape on the top page and securing it to another page placed on top of it until all seven pages are joined. This is the base of the star book.  Now you need to insert the smallest page into the middle size. Fold the page closed and put a strip of doublestick tape or line of glue along the long outside strip of both sides, open a middle page and lay one side of the smaller page with the edges lined up – press firmly. Close the page over and make sure the edges of the small piece inside line up with the edge of the larger piece. See the overview of the starbook if this seems hard to visualize. Complete all the inner sections and then insert one into each larger page in the same fashion – edges lined up. Note: YES glue is somewhat easier as you have a bit of play in the alignment process. When all of the pages are joined, attach the ribbon by taping one length to the front page and one length to the outside of the back page. Attach the covers to the front and back of the book, covering the ribbon ends as you do. Add any further embellishments. Trace the edges with a gold felt-tip or gel pen if desired. You can also run the ribbon around the outside of the book.
