Materials:

-         papermache box (examples are of a small book box from Just Jhone)

-         Lumiere Paints

-         Flat black acrylic paint

-         Stamps (examples are from Just Jhone)

-         Beads, charms, ribbons, fibers, etc

-         Glue (I used YES or bead glue in most cases)

-         Items for inside the box

o      Chocolate

o      Bandaid

o      Toothpick

o      Pencil

o      Eraser

o      Stick of gum

o      Hershey hug candy

o      Mint

o      Eraser

o      Tea bag

-         Paper to print saying on

-         Small letter stamps

-         Dye ink ( Brilliance used in examples)

Step 1:

Basecoat the mache inside & out with the black paint

Paint over that with lumiere color of choice, I used a foam brush

Stipple or sponge other colors over, wedge makeup sponges work well for this

After completely dry, you can decorate the outside of the box, to add a stamped image you will want to press the box top on the faceup inked stamp.  If you do not get a good image you can wipe it off with a baby wipe – be gentle.  You can emboss or not but you should heat set in any case as it takes a while to dry over the lumieres.  You can now sponge additional color over the image – use a very light touch.  Add word stamps or charms, etc as you like.

Inside the box:

I did one with a PMS candy bar inside and sealed with a piece of transparency, then on the inside cover I stamped ‘Break plastic in emergency’ – you can also embellish that part of the box if you wish.  You can also print the desired saying on your computer printer and glue inside the front cover.

The other box I typed the following on my computer and glued inside front cover:

I hope this box will help make you smile and get through those occasional frustrating days.  Here are my helpful goodies!

Toothpick to ‘pick’ out good qualities in others

Rubberband so you can be flexible

Bandaid to heal your hurt feelings

Pencil to list your blessings

Eraser ‘cause we all make mistakes

Gum  to stick with it, I know you can do it

Mint  as you are worth a mint

Candy Hug for when you need a hug

Tea bag so you can relax with a cup

Then arrange all the items mentioned in a nice way, you can add a gift certificate of some type if you want.

It would be fairly easy to personalize for someone special

You may want to add a ribbon/fiber tie to hold the box/book closed
